Sara

Hello! I’m Sara, a third year Historian at St Hugh’s College, Oxford. I’m trilingual (French, English, and Italian) and have always spoken these languages at home and at school having gone to French and international schools my whole life. My multi-lingual and international background is an integral part of me and has proven to be invaluable on both a personal and professional level, which is why I’m so keen on sharing the tools to master this skill.

Before university, I did my IB at the longest running International School in England, St Clare’s Oxford, and got awarded a Bilingual Diploma after completing both English and French literature at a native level. Although thoroughly enjoying languages at school and getting classed in the top percentile of my graduating year in French literature, I decided to widen my horizons and pursue my love for history at university instead. I now always look forward to using my languages whenever I can – from my thesis based entirely on Italian sources, to history modules formulated specifically for French speakers exploring art and culture in 19th century France – and am an active committee member of the Oxford University French Society.

I have a wide range of experience passing on my love oflanguages, including working with younger children at an international Montessori primary school during my year off,and preparing IB students for their French oral examinations and coursework. I have also helped students getting ready for Oxbridge applications, from navigating the History Aptitude Test to helping them perfect personal statements and interview performance. I truly believe that tutoring is about fostering a love for the subject, which can only be done by creating a comfortable learning experience that takes the student’s individual needs and interests as its top priority. Particularly when it comes to language acquisition, the key is simply to give students the necessary tools to gain confidence in their ability to express themselves – a journey I look forward to embarking on together!
