Hello! I’m Owen, and I’m about to graduate with a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Philosophy from Oxford. Over the course of my studies, I have received an exhibitions and First Class scholarship for my performance on exams. I have a specific interest in quantum computing and machine learning methods for healthcare. I have conducted research in quantum machine learning at EPFL in Switzerland culminating in a paper that is soon to be published. I am currently doing a computational study of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at the Oxford Centre for Magnetic Resonance. On the philosophy side, I specialise in ethics, particularly its intersections with AI and other practical issues.
Outside of my academic work, I am an avid runner and enjoy drawing. My educational background is began in France, where I attended Lycée Victor Grignard, achieving the maximum scores in my final exams (straight A*s). During high school, I held positions of responsibility as class president and was actively involved in various competitions, including math olympiads.
I have tutored languages and Computer Science at a variety of levels. The feedback I’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive, with students feeling more empowered and having a better grasp of the material after our lessons. My volunteer work includes helping at a local hospital and a mental health hotline, reflecting my commitment to giving back to the community.
A distinctive feature of my tutorial approach is encouraging students to see the bigger picture. While exam preparation is crucial, fostering a deep intuition and curiosity about the subject matter is equally important. Admissions committees are always on the lookout for students who demonstrate a passion that goes beyond the curriculum, and I believe fostering curiosity is key to achieving this. My degree in Computer Science and Philosophy is a testament to how effective multidisciplinary teaching can be, even at the highest levels of academic achievement. This interdisciplinary approach has proven to be particularly effective and enjoyable, and I welcome students interested in exploring multiple subjects concurrently.
