Nikita - history and spanish, University of oxford
Hi! I’m Nikita, and I have just graduated from Merton College, Oxford, where I studied History and Spanish. After completing part of my year abroad in Córdoba, I wanted to spend more time in Andalucía, so I’m spending this academic year in Granada as an English language assistant in a secondary school.
Alongside my degree, I really enjoyed getting involved with student life, and holding positions of responsibility within the College. In my second year I was my College’s Access and Equalities Representative, working on the Executive Committee to organise events to celebrate our students’ diversity, such as through formals for Black History Month, Diwali, Hanukkah and Chinese New Year.
Before coming to Oxford, I studied four A Levels, in Spanish, Politics, History, and Mathematics. I have been tutoring for six years, from GCSE to university admissions, across a range of subjects. As Access Rep, I spent a lot of time working with students from disadvantaged backgrounds, participating in workshops, seminars and events relating to the Oxbridge admissions process.
My tutoring style is unique and flexible, as I take multiple approaches for each student, as no two learn in the same way. My approach is highly adaptive, and tailored to the needs of each individual. My degree has equipped me with interdisciplinary skills, allowing me to teach a range of subjects, and provide my students with new ways of approaching problems. I encourage them to think beyond the bounds set by their school curriculum, to make connections between themes, topics and subjects, to further their intellectual development.
When not studying and teaching, I love to cook. I also love to read, and I especially have an interest in modern Latin American literature.
