MILLIE - GEOGRAPHY, University of Oxford

I have recently graduated Keble College, Oxford University, with a first class degree in Geography, specialising in the social and human aspects. While excelling in Maths and Science GCSEs and thus highly capable in STEM subjects, my academic strengths lie in the ability to think critically and creatively with both text and real-world data. I strive to bring this energy into my tutoring, encouraging my students to challenge conceptual narratives and build their own sophisticated ideas in response to literature and geographical case studies.

I have been tutoring since aged 15, giving me seven years of experience. Working with younger children in their primary school years to teenagers going through their GCSEs, I have a plethora of experience in different working methods employing different activity engagement exercises and help with homework organisation. I have successfully worked with both online and in person tutoring.

Additionally, lesson structure and support is very important to the success of my tutoring. Co-creating a schedule to approach course material helps both me and the student gain a wider sense and trust in the stages of the tutoring process. Lastly, I encourage students to ask questions and bring their own interests and qualms to the lessons, so that the sessions are moulded around their own personal needs rather than replicating that of a classroom.

I offer Geography tutoring up to an Oxbridge application level, working with students to boost their confidence and prepare a personalised skill set for the interview process. I also tutor for Geography A-level, focusing on a curriculum specific form of mentoring.

For GCSE-level I tutor Geography, English Literature, Drama and Spanish, my passion for literature and writing something which enhanced my academic abilities and pliancy within my degree in that it encouraged me to approach different elements of the course from a unique and interrogative angle. For this, I highly recommend exploring Geography alongside another topic of interest within the GCSE and A-level periods as it is such a wonderfully multifaceted and polymorphic degree, there are manifold ways to approach it.
