Matthew - Mathematics, University of oxford
Hi! I’m Matthew, I graduated from Oxford in 2023 with a Distinction in Mathematics; I’m now pursuing a PhD at the University of Manchester in Abstract Algebra, because I decided I just couldn’t let maths go!
At A-Level I studied Maths, Further Maths and Physics, but spent most of my time enjoying and exploring the maths I was learning. Each year in my degree I received awards for achieving the highest grade amongst my Mathematics Cohort in my college. During my time in Oxford, I also spent time tutoring for the Coronavirus Tutoring Initiative, which aimed to provide support for those in need during the pandemic.
I love mathematics, and find the process of communicating difficult concepts incredibly enjoyable; this is especially true for topics in Further Maths, which I spent the majority of my A-levels playing with. I find the process of getting to know how a student thinks, and how best to help them, incredibly rewarding, which has been the highlight of teaching maths courses at the degree level.
When I’m not doing Maths, I play bass guitar and enjoy sewing!
