Lucy - Chemistry, University of Oxford
Hello! I’m Lucy and I am in my final year studying Chemistry at the University of Oxford. I have loved my time at university, and have been especially proud to obtain a First in my exams throughout my degree. I am now undertaking a research project for my fourth and final year as part of an interdisciplinary group that works between the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Medical Research, specialising in HIV. Throughout my time at university I have also played hockey for the Women’s 1st team for all years that I have been here. Before coming to university, I studied Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry and Politics at A-Level, obtaining A*s in all of them. I also completed an EPQ about the role of pharmaceutical companies in the manifestation of the opioid crisis in America, achieving full marks, and won a Cambridge essay prize in year 12 about how the UK could become carbon neutral by 2050.
I am now working as a tutor alongside my degree, with experience tutoring a range of subjects including Mathematics, Further Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology at GCSE level for a range of examination boards, as well as Maths and Chemistry at A-level and IB. I have received consistently positive feedback from parents and students alike, particularly in the improvement seen in grades and marks as part of preparation in the lead up to exams. I have found it highly fulfilling to see the positive impact my tuition has had on examination results and university offers.
My tutorial approach rests upon gaining an understanding of what works best for an individual student to understand scientific concepts and techniques most intuitively and naturally, as this is so different for everyone. I am also particularly experienced in exam preparation, and employ a range of revision techniques and strategies to find what best engages the pupil and then work to develop focussed exam techniques, built upon a strong foundation of conceptual understanding.
