Hi, I’m Lizzie. I’m 21 and I have just finished my second year studying French and German at the University of Oxford. I did the International Baccalaureate in Sixth Form and got 43/45. At higher level I studied: English (7), German (6) and French (6). At standard level I studied: Biology (7), Maths (7), History (7). At TOK and EE I got 3/3. Apologies for the confusing grading system!!
I have had experience teaching English and Foreign languages while working at a prep school in London during my gap year. As the Modern Languages representative of Pembroke College, I am relied on for being highly knowledgeable about both French and German. Unlike other subjects, languages cannot simply be memorised from a book and reproduced in an exam. It is important to understand how to formulate expressions and idiomatic phrases, while learning how to break down challenging grammar logically. It is therefore important to establish the client’s strengths and weaknesses early on and then find fun and exciting ways to work on them. Everyone has different needs, but one of the key factors for most people learning a language is confidence. Knowing that you can speak, write and understand the language makes a huge difference and helps the individual to feel motivated and stay engaged.
