Katie

Hello! I’m Katie, and I am currently in my final year studying BA Spanish and Arabic at Christ Church, University of Oxford. After having lived in Jordan and in Spain, I am at an advanced level in Arabic and have completed a C2 level course in Spanish. I have also travelled extensively around the Middle East and Latin America, so have a vast knowledge of the different dialects and cultures.

My degree at Oxford has involved rigorous study of language and literature. From the political poetry of Neruda and Cervantes’ Don Quixote to the works of Yusuf Idris and classical writer al-Jahiz, my studies span across the ages. I have a passion for language learning and this degree has given me an insight into so many different aspects of Spanish and Arabic. Alongside my studies, I was the captain of Christ Church netball team 2022-23, leading us to victory in the university-wide ‘Cuppers' tournament. I have also been involved with the Oxford Diplomatic Society as the Marketing Officer. In my spare time, I maintain my A level in French and have started to learn Italian.

Before coming to university, I attended school in North Yorkshire, and achieved A levels in Spanish (A*), French (A*) and English Literature (A*). I also completed an EPQ on the influence of the French Revolution on English Romantic poetry and was Head Girl in year 13. At GCSE I achieved 10A*s and 3As.

I mentored younger students in school for languages, and find teaching very rewarding at all levels. My tutoring style is tailored to each individual’s abilities and interests, so that lessons are engaging. Last year, I volunteered for The Oxford Hub, teaching English to Arabic speaking asylum seekers and I have also worked with students on Oxford based Summer Schools.
