Jamie
Hello! I’m Jamie a second-year student reading for the Masters of Computer Science at Balliol College, Oxford. I enjoy all aspects of the subject, but I take particular interest in intelligent systems, and artificial intelligence. During my first year I earned a prelims prize for my results in end of year examinations, signifying that I attained high grades. Outside of my time spent studying, I like to go bouldering at the local climbing gym with my friends, along with training for running half marathons. I love jazz music, and currently I am treasurer for the university jazz society, which I attend events for often.
Prior to university I studied A levels in Mathematics (A*), Further Mathematics (A*), Physics (A), and Computer Science (A*). During this time, I began tutoring GCSE students which I found to be enriching hence I continued to teach in the years that followed. I value the opportunity to get to help others to learn, which is why I enjoy tutoring.
While tutoring I aim to understand where students require the most support, with the aim to reinforce these areas. I believe that true understanding of subjects is easiest with a solid foundation, which I can then use to help build into harder topics. I also try to identify each student’s unique learning style so that I can work with the students in a way that suits them best, along with making the learning space friendly and comfortable so that students feel at ease. I hope to make it so that all my students enjoy our sessions together.
Here is an testimonial from one of my previous tutees:
“Jamie has significantly helped me throughout A levels. I often struggle to understand what exam questions are asking me; Jamie always finds a way to help me understand these in our sessions and provides me with techniques to apply later. I have also found Jamie has a way of breaking down complex problems making them much easier to understand and solve. I highly recommend Jamie’s tuition!”
