Indu - french and Italian, University of oxford
Hi! My name’s Indu and I’m a French and Italian graduate from New College, Oxford. I’m currently completing a Law conversion in London, having spent some time post-University teaching, volunteering, and travelling. At Oxford I was awarded an Academic Scholarship following outstanding performance in my first year exams, after receiving a Double First. I also maintained a strong academic record throughout school, having gained 11A*s at GCSE, A*A*A (Chemistry, French and Maths) at A-Level. I could not have achieved these grades without the incredible teaching and support I have always been so fortunate to receive, which is precisely why I value the importance of tutoring so much.
I spent 5 months of my year abroad in Iseo, Italy, where I taught English to secondary school students of varied abilities (A1 to C1). During this time, I also provided one-on-one tutoring to some of the school’s teaching assistants. I developed the ability to provide engaging and insightful lessons that explored important vocabulary and grammatical concepts by making them relevant to British culture. I particularly enjoyed bonding with students over popular English music and films. I received an excellent reference on my End of Work Placement, and was described as an ‘invaluable addition to the team’. My tutoring experience has been further developed in recent years, where I taught both academic subjects (with a focus in languages) but also soft skills such as teamwork, leadership and creativity to students of varying ages.
Over the years, I’ve learnt how to take an individualised approach with teaching, one that is primarily built on trust. I strive to cultivate a positive and encouraging learning environment, and push each tutee to their full potential. Above all, learning should be a fun experience, and I endeavour to pass on my love of languages to fellow students.
Away from academics, I am a keen pianist, and enjoy playing tennis (I’m currently participating in a mixed doubles league). I’m also a big foodie!
