Hi, I’m Flora. I am in my third year studying Classics at The Queen’s College, Oxford. I took A-levels in Latin (A*), Ancient Greek (A*) and French (A*).
I have been working as a tutor for several years and am experienced in tutoring Latin and Greek at all standards from Common Entrance to A-level and French up to GCSE (for which I can provide references on request). I have always enjoyed studying the way in which languages work and using patterns to decode the source material, particularly in Latin and Greek, and this plays a large part in my degree which involves studying both the language, literature and society in depth.
Having worked with a range of pupils of different ages and standards it has become clear to me that one-to-one lessons are very beneficial as they allow the tutor to adapt their teaching methods to suit the individual child which helps them to reach their full potential. Every child learns in a unique way and often a large part of their ability to learn is dependent on their confidence. The more confident a child becomes the more they enjoy what they are studying and the better they can perform. Teaching children with the Jacari charity in Oxford, for whom English is their second language, has helped me to understand how better to teach languages such as Latin and Greek to other students.
