Connor
Hi, I'm Connor. I am a first year at the University of Oxford where I study English and French at Jesus College. At A-Level, I studied English (A*), French (A*), Spanish (A*), and History (A).
I began tutoring over lockdown. Three friends and I set up a non-profit tutoring initiative that we called the 'Faim de Loup' project. We taught French language and grammar to large groups of GCSE students from another school local to us. All the teaching was online, and it gave us a new understanding of how different platforms could be used in creative ways to aid learning. Further than just improving both their level of French and developing our teaching skills, we were passionate about encouraging non-native speakers to take up Modern Languages and continue to engage with them in the future. Therefore, we aimed particularly to generate enthusiasm and interest for the subject. The project was an enormous success and has now been expanded to six schools with the help of the links of the OX14 Learning Partnership.
Following this, I began to tutor privately which I have greatly enjoyed as a chance to develop a more personal teaching style based on the individual student. By this, I mean finding the best specific learning strategies for the single student and applying them effectively to help them achieve the very best they can. Overall, though, I believe there is no substitute for genuine interest and enjoyment and I look forward to exploring the subject in a way that both maximises results and give the student a chance to foster a real intellectual curiosity for the subject.
