Comrie - English, University of Cambridge
Hey! I’m Comrie, I received a Reuben Scholarship and Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Scholarship to read English at the University of Cambridge, and have spent the last few years working for BBC Bitesize, writing and producing videos across the curriculum, but specialising in the arts. I was a member of the Cambridge Footlights, and wrote the Footlights pantomime, and to date have brought five shows to the Edinburgh Fringe!
Before university, I received an all-fees paid bursary to attend Stewart’s Melville College in Edinburgh, Scotland where I excelled academically. In my Advanced Highers I achieved English A*, Religious Moral and Philosophical Studies A*, Latin A*, Music A, and I received the highest mark in Scotland for my RMPS exam, where it became part of the marking scheme.
I have a wide range of professional experience, working for organisations such as the Soho Theatre and the production team for Comic Relief.
I’m a keen and versatile thinker, with an engaging sunny style, able to synthesise information quickly and nurture any student's ability through the creation of fun and supportive learning environments.
I really enjoy my lessons as I’m a big believer in the unique viewpoint of each individual - it’s always interesting to hear the variety of perspectives! I encourage tutees to really grasp the information, rather than just rote learning or regurgitating facts, and it's great to get to a stage where we can discuss the material in depth. Exams are important to me, but the most exciting thing to see is when a tutee has that 'aha!' of realisation.
