Hey, I’m Charlie, a recent graduate from Oxford University, where I studied English and French (Language and Literature), graduating with First Class Hons. I also spent lots of time acting and directing in student theatre productions, and am currently studying documentary film part-time at UCL. Whilst at Oxford, I learned two things about education: that good tuition is predicated on listening as much as talking - enthusing and helping direct pupils’ interests, not instructing them what to think - and, secondly, that enjoyment is completely fundamental to engagement. If there is no pleasure in learning, one’s desire to learn suffers.
I’ve been lucky enough to teach in a wide variety of contexts and cultures: a Nepalese primary school, a French-Guadeloupian lycée, and as both mentor and tutor to pupils in the UK’s independent and state sectors. Throughout this time, I’ve aspired to stimulate curiosity and foster a space of enjoyment above all. I believe that if pupils are engaged, then academic success follows, and one-to-one tuition provides a hugely exciting opportunity to achieve this.
Helping individuals work out how best they learn, galvanising them with a confidence in their convictions, and to think freely, is my biggest motivation. It equips them with the skillset to take on all and any academic challenges they may face. I love sharing my enthusiasm for education, particularly through English and French, with students of all ages and abilities. I’ve tutored these subjects at all levels, from KS2 to university admissions tests, as well as tutoring History, Drama, Maths and other core subjects to a GCSE level.
