Hi! I’m Celia. I recently gained a 2.i (66) in my degree at Oxford, studying Classics at Christ Church. I took A Levels in Latin (A*), Classical Greek (A), History (A), and I did an EPQ (A*), considering the extent to which Aristophanes’ plays critiqued ancient Athens’ socio-political apparatus. I also took AS Government and Politics, for which I received an A (193/200 UMS). For my GCSEs I achieved 11 A*s.

Having tutored for a couple of years now, I find that the best results come from clear communication and tailoring the lesson plans around the individual tutee. Everyone learns in different ways, and so I constantly adapt my lesson plans around the student and how effectively they are currently learning. I’ve personally always found that the facts which stick the most in my brain are the ones which I remember from an enjoyable and interactive conversation; I therefore also try to make the sessions for every tutee as interesting and engaging as possible. After all, learning does not always have to feel tedious and stressful!

I have loved studying Classics at university, and I always strive to pass my enthusiasm and interest for the subject onto my tutee. As someone who did not always have a great deal of belief in my academic abilities when I was at school, I find that helping students fulfil their potential and gain confidence in their studies the most rewarding part of my tutoring experience. I’ve found that the key ingredients towards performing well at school and in exams include self-belief, knowledge, practice, and exam technique. Using a patient and positive approach I like to focus on encouraging my tutee reach their potential in all four of these areas.
