Alice - English, University of Oxford
Hello, I’m Alice! I graduated from the University of Oxford in July 2024 with a First Class Degree in English, and I’m now studying a master’s degree at King’s College London. At A level, I achieved 4 A*s in English Literature, English Language, Geography, and an EPQ in Modernist Studies.
Having tutored since sixth form, I have a depth of teaching experience ranging from Common Entrance and scholarship assistance to Oxbridge applications and running A-Level clinics, and I’m especially comfortable tutoring English.
I believe that a combination of organised learning, rolling assessment and creative freedom are central to academic success, and this approach forms the foundation of my friendly teaching style. Especially with humanities subjects, a balance of following learning specifications closely and thinking ‘outside of the box’ is key to making students stand out for examiners; this is why I find it really important for tutorials to naturally extend beyond the required syllabus in order to cultivate genuine interest and a passion for the topic at hand. Discussions should always be open and inquisitive to forge connections between ideas and to spark continuous curiosity!
Outside of academia I’m a keen sports woman (at Oxford I captained the Women’s Blues hockey team and have recently taken up triathlon), and have coached age groups ranging from 8 years old to adult players. Growing up in the Middle East and then moving to boarding school in the UK at the age of 12, I have experienced multiple learning environments; this has allowed me to develop a unique, adaptable, and creative teaching approach which hopes to ensure academic development and accomplishment.
